“Another family having fun on vacation.” That’s what my father used to sarcastically say whenever we’d see a mother battling a rambunctious toddler on a plane, a child having a temper tantrum on the beach, or two adults snipping at each other while reviewing a map and obviously disagreeing about the correct direction to take. This became an inside joke for us that has carried on for years, and even now, when my own toddler had a screaming fit in the middle of a serene national park, I looked at my husband and said “we’re another family having fun on vacation.”
We love to travel and we especially love to travel with our kids. And we are no strangers to the stress, chaos and unpredictability that children can add to any travel scenario. Let’s be honest, when parents travel with their kids, they’re just doing more work in a prettier location. It’s not actually a break.
So, we’ve set out to create products that make life easier. That make adventures go more smoothly. So that we can spend less time in the chaos and more time in the fun. And we hope you like them, too.
Our first product is the versatile towel poncho and swim cover-up that was envisioned when we became tired of carrying All The Things back from the beach. With a regular hooded towel, kids have to hold it around them and they can’t carry anything else. And we adults have enough to carry. We set out to create an adorable, functional towel that keeps kid’s hands free so that they can start exercising some independence and helping us out a bit around here. You know, by carrying their own drinks and bags of toys.
We’ve made it large enough to be versatile – it also works as a swim cover-up and will survive a few years of growth spurts. I love that I can just toss it over their heads and we can head to a mid-beach-day lunch without getting them completely dressed. My husband loves that it’s big enough that we can put them in the car while wearing it and the seats will stay dry. Mostly we love that we can make them carry their own things. There’s already enough freeloading going on around here.
Our youngest was nicknamed “Bear” before she was even born, and once she started speaking, she called her big brother “Baba”. They are now 7 and 2 and they’ve helped us create Baba & Bear. We are excited that you are joining us on this journey and we wish you the most relaxing days ahead.
With joy,
The Baba & Bear Family
